Scars of a Woman

This was the first painting in the series; it’s where it all began. The background is layered with disposable medical robes from my kidney cancer scans, once worn and discarded, now woven into my story. The black and white palette reflects the starkness of those years, while the textures carry the weight of the scars many women bear. For me, it also holds my own, the scar from surviving a 14cm tumour and the reality of living life with only one kidney. My scar not only speaks of surviving cancer, but the resilience that came from surviving.
